From a photo standpoint, Game Five of the 2013 World Series was a let down. After the exciting endings of Game Three and Four, Game Five was a pitchers duel. And when there’s a pitchers duel going down, generally, the photos are few and far between. Jon Lester and Adam Wainwright both pitched very well.
The game was played at a quick pace. Both hurlers threw strikes early and often. Plain and simple, they were old school dominant. But as the saying goes, fans dig the long ball…. Pitchers duels are for purists, not photographers.
The Red Sox struck first in the first when, who else, David Ortiz launched a run scoring double down the first base line to score Dustin Pedroia.
After Matt Holliday tied it up with a solo dinger to knot the score at 1-1 in the fourth, going into the bottom of the seventh, I had very little to show, visually, since there was, well, very little to show!
Yawn…
The Red Sox plated two runs in the seventh inning to break the tie and give the Red Sox the lead 3-1. There WAS a play at the plate, but lady luck wasn’t on my side this night as all I saw was backsides. Eh, it happens. Every World Series play at the plate can’t look as good as this one. Or this one…
Koji Uehara pitched the ninth and closed out a 3-1 Red Sox win, putting the Red Sox up 3 games to 2 heading back to Boston for Game Six. A three hour World Series Game?? I can’t remember the last time that happened, if ever! But I was thankful since the game was, dare I say it, boring.
Tuesday morning we boarded our MLB charter and headed back to Beantown for Game Six Wednesday night, and the big question for me became will I make it back to Chicago in time to take my daughter trick-or-treating, or will the Cardinals wake up on the road.
If David Ortiz keeps up his torrid offensive pace (how can you pitch to him??) , I have a feeling I might make that Halloween date with my daughter.
The trick may very well end up being on the fans of Cardinals.
